It is really hard to believe this man has a PhD. Probably true what President of the World Powerlifting Congress said about his home country: "In US there are PhDs and there are cereal packet PhDs". I'm here only because this snake oil salesman pops up in my facebook feed in his ads and they are literally ALL (seen 4 things, supersets, this and few other bits, so haven't seen all and do not intend to watch) complete shite. His methods are among the most inefficient, piss poor ways to train, and he continues to amaze me with his daftness in the field of exercise. Only a BA Honors myself, but even when losing in the academic title game I certainly can claim to be a better coach than him any day of the week.

It depends on the Smith machine and how much counterbalance it has. Many remove about 10-20 lbs from the counterbalance, so that if you had two 45-lb plates on the bar it would equal about 115-125 lbs

I'm going to try this next arm day.  Only problem is my gym's smith machine sucks it rotates closed very easily and it's straight up and down so it could be tricky.  But I have noticed that doing an explosive move at the start of a workout "awakens" more muscle fibers and actually makes me stronger on the rest of my lifts that day.


Lol @ all the uneducated people commenting with no understanding of biomechanics. I've never seen this exercise before, but in theory would definitely improve explosive strength much like doing clap pushups or any other form of pylometrics.

Just because everyone on the internet makes fun of the smith machine, doesn't render it useless.

Hey Jim, I have a question about the Smith Machine. As you know, a standard Olympic bar weighs 45 LBs, so if I add a 45 LB plate to each side, that'll equal 135 LBs total. If I were to add a 45 LB plate to each side of a Smith Machine bar, how much weight would that be? Still 135?
