It is understandable that these refs may miss a few calls from time to time during real play. However! To watch the replay and STILL repeat the same bad call when it is obvious they missed it... they should be fired from the game! Oklahoma scooped it up. I don't like OU in the least, but in this case they were robbed. The PAC10 agreed and suspended the refs.

Rewatch the clip, you can see the player does punch himself in the head, and his fist deflects off his spherical helmet, his follow through is what hits the ref. I was skeptical at first after hearing the players excuse, but after watching the clip a few times there might be truth in his story.

In my opinion refs get way to much protection especially when it's been known that a dirty ref(s) can alter games, even more when there's money involved, I'm not making excuses for hitting a ref but when there is very little to no accountability towards ref mistakes that cause games we have to make our own justices sometimes. Why is hitting a ref assault but when a player hits another player it's unsportsmanlike and there are no cops involved. If they're so concerned about ref safety then these refs should also be in full protection gear. They chose to be refs and to go out in the field in a physical violent sport with no protection, deal with it.
