How does the pain caused by this injury feel? I’ve been struggling with a ankle injury for a few months now and still haven’t managed to identify a clear problem. I can put all of my weight on my ankle but the pain happens when I come off of the ankle. Does this sound like this type of injury?

I have done excersises daily as my physio told me; it got worse. I quit doing the excersises, got an orthotic, went to a different physio who applied dry needling for a couple of times and gave me another excersice program which I carefully follow. I am going to stop these excersices as well I guess... I'm also going to stop wearing my unsuportive nikes.

How should one ease back into running after dealing with this injury for over half a year? I am kind of in the dilemma that I do want to improve my balance, ankle strength, etc., but apparently cannot train my lower leg muscles without risking delay of healing... I'm getting kind of desperate at this point. Would love to pick up running again in March of 2021.

Fahad Al-Maajoun

Hi i have a high signals of fluid(edema) in near my medial malleolus. Is this the same thing?

Kelsea Nova

Pretty sure it's my sudden hobby of running in snow. I'm frequently shifting weight in spiked shoes which us a whole different ballgame from running on regular pavement.

Maria Giles

I have been dealing with this for months, nearly a year. It is the most frustrating injury i ever had. Have costum orthotics, have lower how much I walk during the day, have done PT. Went s couple of times 5 min on elliptical and that flare it up again, even hurts on the tibialis anterior. I am hypermobile and next step is prp in the ligaments. . Is walking in the pool a good option? Any other recommendations knowing that tibialis anterior is inflammed too? I thought weight bearing doing weights is not good?

Prabhanshu Paliwal

Can i continue running with this ankle pain because i can't stop running

Zenitha Fatallo

great video, what are your thoughts on the elliptical for a cross training exercise to maintain running fitness while working on this?

d h

Thanks. Mich! I think my right foot has the profile you described, except I have no pain when not walking and there is no swelling. It almost feels like a big surge of pressure pain when i walk. Ive had this for about a week after playing tennis. There was no sign of an injury. WTF?

Anas Hasanat

Go to gym .. OK, I got this specific energy in gym ?

Dare Olaniyan

I watched some of your videos and they are actually helpful on my sprained ankle. Thank you.

suzypenguin

Xrays, custom orthotics, braces and physical therapy didn’t help my posterior tibial ankles. Finally after 2 years of pain they did an MRI and found tears and deterioration of the tendons. Now they are pushing surgery. ?

Vatina Birr

I have been dealing with posterior tibial tendonitis for a year now. I found out I have a small extra bone in my foot which prolonged my healing. I work as a nurse and am on my feet a lot. I started using a custom made orthotic at the end of august which did help but prolonged standing still causes ankle soreness/tenderness. Is this something I will live with forever? Would a compression brace possible help?

Rim academy Udaipur

How long take to heal i want to run and 30 days left in my race ।

Chris Mathew

Will cuboid syndrome or peronial tendonitis cause knee pain too?

Maria Quintero

Great video! I'll be watching this a couple of times. Thank you!

Maria Giles

So. When do you start strengthening for it? After a few months?

patrick dapaah

I have had Posterior tibia tender dysfunction for 11 months and have had 2 injections gone for therapy felt better for a while and the pain is all back again.I have ruled surgery out, what do I do help.
Patrick.

Thanks for the video

So I’ve had this issue for over 6 months, I saw an orthopedic doctor and nothing broken or anything. Did pt for a week and start to see improvement, but had to travel for a few months so I stoped before it could get back to 100%.

You talked about doing other trainings outside of running, like lifting. Do you think I could get back to squatting and deadlifting and just stop running like I have been recently( kinda reaggravated it) been doing??I love squatting and deadlifting but put those aside for the injury

GABY MONTIEL

Sorry to say but I’m obsessed with ur adorable feet ????

azmiel kasim

Very helpful especially on the cross training. My left foot has got the works ie. accessory navicular, flat foot, plantar fasciitis and posterior tibial tendonitis. Despite wearing running shoes with proper support combined with calf compression and plantar fasciitis socks, I can't enjoy a simple walk without suffering a flare up afterwards. Guaranteed to happen. It's just a matter of time before the swelling begins. Running is out of the question. I'm dead if a dog or any wild animal chases me.

Maria Giles

Thank you. This video is so good. What do you recommend when wearing a brace causes pressure on the tendon and hurts more

If i had pain from the ankle towards peroneal longus, could it also be caused by tendonitis? ? last time i used kinesio tape for ankle stability and the pain on my peroneal longus is gone. But then when i took it off, it started to feel painful again. Thanks for the video by the way, it’s really helpful for me, who hasn’t get the right diagnosis for my problem.

Filukkas univers

i have had pain in that longus area for years

Hey Tom, This video is amazing. I am very active and all the pain you mentioned in this video related to me. You are so generous and selfless by sharing all these information with us. I appreciate what you are doing from the bottom of my heart. ???

Matte Robbins

It only happens when i’m walking at an incline... I have really high arches.

Joshua Marshall

Longus for me! This is in my non dominant foot that just doesn’t seem to be keeping up and developing strength as fast as my dominant foot and leg. After my runs my entire left leg is inflamed and all my veins are pumped up it’s so weird. #4 subluxation yes that happens. I am running a marathon next month and then I am joining the military special warfare training for 2 years so I am trying to make sure I understand how to treat this

jdorejessica

Thank you!! I was trying to make an appointment hopefully soon to a podiatrist for my right peroneal foot pain today! This video was soo informational and useful!

Jose Cantu

Wow! What an incredible video! You are so knowledgeable and very precise in your description of these muscles, tendons, possible injuries and ways to fix and help heal the problem. I tried watching other videos and none of them covered half the things you did. Alot of them only mainly covered the Peroneus Brevis. You covered it all! My problem is definitely the Peroneus Longus. I'm very sore there and it's hard to walk especially after sitting for some time. I'm a truck driver for beer and beverage company and work very long hours 12-14hr days. I know there's many things that you mentioned that could be contributing to my pain. I'm one of those supposed tough guys or lol dumb guys that put off seeing a doctor until the absolute last second. I'm self diagnosing or guessing. I think the problems started happening a few months after this Corona Virus started. I've always been a very active guy and even after work still go to the gym and find time to take the kids for walks or hikes. Well, since pandemic gym and hikes stopped not nearly as active as I used to be, I put on some weight, working way more hours since we're really short on drivers, probably wearing worn shoes with not very good arch support, I have high arches by the way and believe I started to develop plantar fasciitus in my left foot about 3 weeks ago. I've been taking Ibuprofen for pain and icing my foot which has helped but with these longer hours working faster, harder and feeling a bit out of shape I feel like it's getting worse. Now, for the past 3 days I've been feeling lots of pain in the Peroneus Longus on both legs but especially my left leg. Wondering if my plantar fasciitus is contributing to my pain along with all the other things I'm doing wrong. Well, thanks to your video I am going to buy the massage stick, buy better shoes, buy a good pair of insoles probably the Powerstep Pinnacle Maxx, buy the Powerlix Ankle brace compression support sleeve and try to lose some weight! Hopefully doing all that plus stretching, icing and Ibuprofen hopefully I can get better and avoid seeing the doctor. Again, thank you so much for this incredible video. You don't know how thankful I am and how appreciative I am for what you've done for me here. Thank you and wish me good luck!

Jamie Swoger

I have been dealing with peroneal tendonitis for years. I had a split tear undiagnosed for over a year after an ankle injury (mri picked it up) I had lateral stabilization surgery in December and the tendons looked okay though. Pain still hasn’t gone away and now my 5th metatarsal is killing me. I have done pt, injections and even PRP and nothing is working. So frustrated after 4 years and keep switching doctors until I get an answer.

I was diagnosed by my foot doctor that i had peroneal tendonitis. I have had my ankle sprain twice and a car ran over the same foot ( right ankle ) now I work a job that is 11 hrs of standing. Thats a killer for my feet . I need some serious help with this pain . I have iced it rest and taking inflammation medication i had a boot for a month on the a aircast for a month. Now I need a special made insert for my shoe that 400 dollars .I need something that will work because I'm honestly over this pain and spending money on boots and raps. Helpp!!!

Kyree Jackson

I get this pain after dunks sometimes but its not bad, do you recommend wearing hightop shoes or wrapping the specific area?

i have had a chronic problem with my Peroneous Longus for almost a decade. To the point where i no longer run. The outside of my calf is sensitive to touch even. For someone what has had such a chronic problem for so long, is there a possibility of nerve damage?

Johnny B

Geez! What a great video. So well done and covered everything. I got custom orthotics and think I was fitted wrong.....I actually believe they caused my problem.

Grace Hughes

Great video, any advice/suggestion for suspected custom orthotic causing peroneal tendinopathy? Is the device too controlling? Causing too much supination (I don't believe it is though) or would I benefit from additional lateral wedging/cuboid notch addition? Thanks

Simon Loo

peroneal longus chronis pain from running n big toe feel a bit numb,

Karina B

Hello. You have Amazing información. I have several damage in both feet. on my left leg l have an split tear of the peroneus Braves. Also plantar fasciitis and a partial tear of tibiospring at the calcanea attachment. Also mild tenosynovitis of the posterior tibial tendon. That is just my left foot. Right foot l have plantar fasciitis and still waiting for results of my MRI. l am a mail carrier and walked for 8 to 10 hours plus for 6 or more days without day off.

Del Boca Vista

Doc, I have tendinitis and aching at the insertion point on the outside of foot, below medial malleolus after stretching it too hard on foam wedge then playing tennis one day(next day woke up sore to put pressure on foot) . Was gradually getting better but after long walks it starts to ache again, and then regular Achilles stretch really inflamed it and set me back, as well as going down stairs. thinking of a prp injection after one helpful cortisone shot 2 mo ago but afraid to do multiple cortison. Is flare up after (not during) stretching consistent with tendinitis , or more so a tear? I always thought stretching would help tendinitis symptoms?? only thing that seems to help is no activity. eversion and heel raises also make it ache after the exercise and set me back a bit . X-ray normal, haven’t done mri yet

Enmanuel Gonzalez

This tendonitis seems impossible to heal! Please help

crikeymos22

Great fabulous fantastic. Thank you for the detail and time spend doing this vid ?

Mark Clark

Good video and explanation of this problem. Thanks! Love the massage stick!
It might have been good to spend a little time on the PARTICULAR biomechanics involved in many cases of peroneal tendonitis- the foot and heel motion caused by oversupination. Not all problems are caused by "stiff calves" (it would be great if they were). If you over-supinate (under-pronate) your foot is rolling outward as you step and you're pulling on your peroneal tendons repeatedly. Correct me if I'm wrong here.
Two of the products you recommend are consequently probably USELESS for many cases of peroneal tendonitis- (those caused by oversupination)- they certainly did nothing for mine. The Powerstep Pinnacle inserts are fine all-purpose inserts but they do nothing for you if your peroneal tendon problem is caused by oversupination. You need something to elevate the outside (lateral) edge of the heel and foot- and the Powerstep inserts don't do that. You will need a lateral wedge insert of some kind.
Likewise, the pull-on Powerlix ankle brace is certainly easy to use, and might help for other causes of ankle or foot pain, but it does nothing for me. A truely adjustable brace (I use the Tri-Lok) is a pain to use but it actually DOES help peroneal tendonitis.
Peroneal tendonitis is a particular problem that needs particular remedies- not just all-purpose inserts or braces.

Heather P. Sneed

I’m suffering terribly at the moment with this. I’ve been slamming NSAIDS, and now on oral steroid, but this is just a terrible pain and in such a critical place that even walking normally hurts, so I limp. With that, my back, SI joint, and calf on the affected side are sore as well. It’s been 2 weeks since I believe I injured it, (jogging followed by jump rope) and just doesn’t seem to be letting up in any significant way. I saw an ortho 2 days ago who put me in a long boot (which makes me walk lopsided and makes my back/hip worse), and prescribed me Valterin cream. So far, I don’t see much light at the end of the tunnel. My xrays were negative for fx. I’m not sure exactly which or if both are affected, but I sure could use some advice or encouragement. Such a bummer bc now I can’t run or even power walk - biking luckily doesn’t hurt.

Aldo N

My pain is kind of hard to pin point, it hurts on the side radiates to the ankle but I also feel pain on the side of knee and when I stay down on a squat position sitting down when I stand up it hurts on the side of knee , weird. I am a cyclist and it doesnt hurt while riding but next day is sore a d pain radiates from knee down to outside of ankle. Thanks

Im a professional football player and i had exactly the same inflammation like the woman in the video! I didnt get my ankle twisted or anything i just had a run on the treadmill and as soon as i got off when i ended my run it started to hurt alot! Then i couldnt even walk for 3-4 days! I had and MRI scan and it shoes that the exact olace you showed in the video the peroneal tendon gas inflammation so i have rested it for 7 days now but it still hurts! Do you suggest i start little running as i told you im a professional football player and this is my job i cannot stay out for too long as it will affect my career. Waiting for your response.

Great explanation of the physical exam, for example saying its important to palpate dorsal and plantar aspect of 5th met to rule in or out probable fracture versus likelihood of tendon injury, follow the tendons, etc. Wonderful video.

Hey doc! I have a question that is not related to this video but today when I was practicing a dance routine, I felt a pop and severe pain in my heel and sole area. It immediately started swelling and it took forever and took forever to take off my pointe shoe. There is severe swelling and bruising and I cannot bear any weight at all. Any idea what the weather injury is?
