best state of the art gym I've been in is city boxing in San diego. ring upstairs and downstairs and tons of equipment

Joseph Rodriguez

Thanks radio. Im a local from New Orleans. Good to know my favorite sport is alive and well here. My dad herbie Rodriguez was a local pro he and his friend former light heavyweight champion Willie pastrano taught my brothers and i to box. It was good therapy for keeping us out of trouble. Happy to see there is a gym where it's open to the public and the kids can go and get the experience of boxing and keep them off the streets and focused on positive things in life. Peace n smoke.

Kim Jong-un

Very cheap compared to Canadian gym

Wrapping your hands is

Wrapping your hands is essential if you are training with heavy bags, mitts, or any other type of striking. In this video, Coach Todd from Gym Rat Boxing and Fitness shows you how to properly wrap your hands using 180 inch "Mexican style" hand wraps.

im surprised that this video doesn't have more views. the other videos i have seen were less informative and didn't talk it through or anything. video is way more informative. and in general just better in my opinion. great vid

Stannis Baratheon

You should always start with wraping on top of the hand and going down

skywangx3

What about left hand?

Zacharias Suurholma

hmm... i guess mine are too short cause the velcro starts at my index finger and its very uncomftrable

Zlatko Javni

it doesn't work for A..cause the palm is not open...

Dr.Rayes

not enough wrist and knuckles protection there

Fender Tremolo

How is this the best way? Absolutely no pad over the knuckles.

vmaisonger

Practically no wrist support (which is more important than having an inch of padding on your knuckles).

Trance

thankyou

Danechamp

but if u start the wrap downwards like that, the wrap will loosen up when you make a fist

ascencio11

@MrMZaccone this wrap sucks for boxing to. Id break my hand wrapping my hands like this.

shaahid mahmood

r u a pro boxer?

j124life

fuck my hand wrap is not that long lolz

Art K

not low enough on the wrist for me, i really need to support that area more than knuckles

Neil Davies

My 350" wraps are the boys.

Tuii

@speeddemonld you meant " it all depends on the hands "

Christian Navarro

easiest to follow pov wrap video.

Shaloobee

It said staring todd, what about the guy who the hand belonged to?

tabullo juan702

I have the exact same hand wraps

1990shahid

Now this is the video i was looking for. Thank you

Tuii

@speeddemonld wanna bet ?

D W

@speeddemonld It depends on the hands weakness. If the wrist gets swolen after a hard training, that means the wrist need to be wrapped more but if the knuckles get swolen then the knuckles need more wrapping.

Jordan Liddle

what do you mean elastic? do you mean stretchy wraps? Because they are mexican hand wraps. I think they are better, because they are way more comfortable

cors chewitt

Dude I am a 14 year old boy who goes boxing and I've been going for a couple of months now and even I know when you put the loop on your hand and then when you wrap it it is supposed to go round the back of the hand first

Thunderstruck

To me thats not a good way,you lower palm should be free. This way you are locking you hand, and have nothing to grab when your making a fist.

Silver Somma

ty ;)

Todd Drespling

To everyone that found the video helpful thank you. For the ones that didn't I'm sorry there are many ways to wrap a hand. I've been wrapping my hands like this for 30 plus years. My Navy Coach had should me this way. Never had hand issues sence. For the one that have problem areas wrap for that area. This is a starting guide for the ones that have no idea how to start. You don't have to hate something you know nothing about. Remember we are all different that's what makes us unique. Thank you from Coach Todd Gym Rat Boxing & Fitness.

Foxfireflames

Very helpful. I thank you for making this video.

txoutlawgsxr

I used to wrap like this style and use ufc gloves, it helps to stop the impact motion on my wrist.

Meelod

IMO not the best way for everyone. I need more emphasis on my wrists (weak) and your method provided very little support for the wrists. Looks really good, but not necessarily the "BEST"

Todd Drespling

@JiveDG I like using elastic handwraps. They tend to have more support and hold the hand better.

Interist

@vmaisonger Agreed. No wrist support and no compression on the tendons to prevent tendinitis.

Blake Reyes

What style do you use with 140" wrap?

ImReadyD151

when I just did this with 180, I had a sizable amount of extra wrap left did I do it wrong or should I wrap anything more?

Edmond Dantez

@ascencio11 I don't doubt it, I'm sure there are better ways to wrap for boxing too. My point is that for MMA it definitely DOESN'T work.

JST KSK

The loop at the start of the wrap should always go from your thumb over the back of your hand.

Idan Kesel

Awesome video, thank you!

PoMetal

I usually prevent my wraps from going over my lower palm where the tip of my fingers rest. If not this will cause restriction from where your finger naturally rests and starts to cramp when you make a fist. Then it'll start to hurt even because your finger gets jammed up every time you hit the heavy bag. Your fingers bend further naturally letting your knuckles sink in further on the heavy bag but the hand wrap will prevent the flexing from safely happening as if your palms are abnormally thicker where your fingers would flex and sit through under those palms. Not a big fan of arthritis or Parkinson's; I'd like to box healthy. Cut your nails too so you won't cut yourself. In other words leave an open area where the tip of your fingers rest on your palm

Rem Wittman

If u have extra wrap just go around ur wrist som more cause everyone's hand size is different so u might have little extra then other people

Jordan Liddle

depends on the size of your hands... if you're using mexican style wraps (stretchy ones) if you pull the wrap tight, you will obviously have more left over. If you have a lot left over, its a good thing, just go over your knuckles a few times and your wrists and you've got extra protection :)

Texcoco

Song at the credits is "Rocket" by Kevin Macleod.

Mark Villanueva

RULE OF THUMB... NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER!!! WRAP AROUND YOUR FINGERS GOING UP.. YOU SHOULD ALWAYS GO AROUND YOUR FINGERS AND ENDING AT THE PALM NOT BACK OF THE HAND.. REASON FOR THAT IS WHEN YOU DO IT THIS WAY IN THE VIDEO.. IT WANTS TO PULL YOUR KNUCKLES BACK WHICH PUTS MORE STRAIN ON IT.. RATHER THAN GOING DOWN IT GOES WITH THE WRIST.. THATS A FACT!!!!!!!

S B

What type of wrap is that? cause mine r not long enough to do that!

upliftpeach25

@j124life you prolly have the 108" wraps lol you need 180"

Edmond Dantez

Nice for boxing ... shit for MMA.

giorgosttt

i think that's very tight...

Ramiz Kadjar

this is the best way I have ever tried. thanks you coach .

Tony Fed

@alexrules91 you want it to be tight, but not to the point of cutting off blood to your fingers. The whole idea is to make the wrist and hand more stable by compressing the small bones together with the wrap.
